Careers @ GovAI
Product Marketing Specialist
Description
About GovAI
GovAI is the work platform for local government. Staff at cities, counties, and special districts sit in it every day to finish real work: council agendas and packets, records and FOIA requests, staff reports, HR policy questions, permits. AI does the heavy lifting, with guardrails and an audit trail built in, so a clerk gets value without having to be an AI expert.
Local governments are being asked to do more with fewer people. That is the problem we work on. We partner with organizations across North America to put AI into the workflows where it can actually give staff time back. And we stay involved after launch: working department by department, training people on their real work, and refining the rollout until GovAI becomes part of how the organization gets things done.
The Role
The Product Marketing Specialist role sits where the product turns into something governments understand, sellers can sell, and departments can adopt.
You will learn how our product is built, decide how we talk about it, and get it into the hands of our sales team. Then you take it to market: launches, campaigns, and the follow-up that tells us whether any of it worked.
What You'll Do
- Learn the product in detail. Sit with product and engineering, use what we ship, and understand what a new feature changes for a clerk, an IT director, or a finance manager.
- Write the words we use. Positioning, package descriptions, web copy, talk tracks, one-pagers. Plain language a deputy city manager could read aloud in a staff meeting.
- Own launches end to end, from the first product conversation to the day it is in market. Decide what goes out, who hears about it, and what we expect it to do.
- Build what sellers need, then go find out if it helped. Sit in on calls, listen to recordings, ask our sales team what they dropped and why.
- Run campaigns that put the product in front of the people who decide: IT directors, city managers, clerks, department leads.
- Bring back what you hear from customers and calls, changing the story when the evidence says to.
- Figure out how we build with agents. Decide which marketing jobs a person should do, which jobs an agent should do, and how those roles fit together on this team.
What We're Looking For
We care more about how you think than how many years you have done this. Show us the mindset and we will help you develop the craft.
- Clear writing. You can explain something complicated in short, ordinary sentences.
- Resilience. Launches slip, messages miss, feedback stings. You take the note and go again.
- A sense of urgency. You would rather ship a good version this week than a perfect one next quarter.
- Detail orientation. You want to be in the weeds. Wrong package name, stale price, vague claim: you catch it and help correct it.
- Problem solving. Given an unclear problem and no playbook, you go find the pieces, build a first version, and put it in front of someone.
- Creativity with a point. You come up with ideas that get us noticed by the people who matter to us, and you can say why an idea should work.
- Curiosity about local government. Some of the most useful AI work available right now has not reached a city clerk's desk. Closing that gap sounds interesting to you.
- Curiosity about product and AI. You want to know how the thing is built, not only how to describe it. You are interested in what the best AI can do and what it cannot do yet.
Who This Is For
You might be early in your career, or you might have spent years in another field and want to do something different. Both work here.
We hire from marketing, finance, social sciences, engineering, journalism, and local government itself. What matters is that you can think, write, and follow a problem to the end. If you are switching careers, or pivoting from another marketing role/context, tell us what you are bringing with you.
Why Work At GovAI?
We keep a beginner's mentality on purpose. This is a company where you can say you do not know something and ask a direct question in a meeting. Nobody here has done this before, because the product and the market are both new.
What gets appreciated is the courage to act. Make the call, make it visible, and let the results teach us. We would rather you make a bold decision and be wrong out loud than wait for permission.
We value flexibility, career development, and collaborating in a mission-driven environment.
Compensation
The base salary for this role starts at $60,000 - $80,000 CAD, depending on experience and qualifications.
Don't Meet Every Requirement?
We strongly encourage you to still apply. At GovAI, we value diverse experiences and believe great people grow into roles. If you’re excited about the opportunity and believe you can make an impact, we’d love to hear from you.
